United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) told ABC 33/40 News union members at Warrior Met Coal (WMC) began an Unfair Labor Practice strike Thursday night at 10 p. m. The strike notice covers more than 1,100 workers at all of WMC’s operations in Tuscaloosa County, including mines number four and seven. The UMWA said it will provide bi-weekly strike assistance payments to UMWA dues-paying members who participate in strike duty. Thursday night, union members held signs outside a WMC facility.

Three houses caught fire just before 2 a. m. Friday on fifth avenue. People were at home sleeping when the fire started. However, Brighton fire department tells us no one had to be rescued and no one was injured. Brighton Fire Chief Antonio Marable said flames were showing from the first house when fire crews arrived. The first house was destroyed. People live there but no one was home. After that two neighboring houses also caught fire. Three people were home inside the second house.

Downtown Birmingham stores may not reopen after violent protest

This day has been one of cleanup and recovery for the 26 commercial buildings damaged or burglarized by violent protesters in Downtown Birmingham. Managers of Tech Loft, a smart phone and device repair company, said 30 to 40 protesters broke into their store Sunday night. The violent group ransacked the building before igniting a bottle of lighter fluid. According Austin Snider, who operates Tech Loft's downtown location, 20 computers and 20 devices (cell phones/tablets) were damaged or stolen.
