Information sessions announced for wastewater treatment plant, as c...

Municipalities in the southeast should soon have a much better idea of what a planned regional wastewater treatment facility will cost. The project was first announced in December 2019. At that time, Hanover, Tache, Ritchot, and Niverville entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to create the Red-Seine-Rat (RSR) Wastewater Cooperative, with hopes of creating a regional wastewater collection system and plant to enhance wastewater management. At the time, it was announced that the plant would be located just north of Niverville at a cost of nearly $110 million. However, the project would be contingent on nearly $80 million in provincial and federal funding. Then, in August of 2022, plans were unveiled for the facility at a funding announcement in Niverville. At the time of the announcement, the project was still expected to cost approximately $110 million, with a 25 per cent contingency. Our provincial government committed $18 million towards the work, while the federal government promised $21 million. The

Municipal board left to resolve contentious Hanover/Steinbach spat

Representatives from Hanover and Steinbach went head-to-head last week, at odds over a parcel of land north of the city. Bluestem Development, on behalf of its clients, has proposed rezoning property west of Highway 12 and south of Road 39N, which is just north of Steinbach. The request is to rezone the land from Agriculture Limited Zone (AL) to Rural Industrial Zone (RI). On January 8th, a public hearing was held in Hanover Council chambers. Following the hearing, Hanover Council gave first and second readings. Because of an objection by the City of Steinbach, the matter must go to the municipal board for a decision. However, at some point following the January 8th hearing, Council learned that it would have to redo the public hearing. Reeve Jim Funk says The Carillon forgot to post the advertised hearing, forcing the redo on February 26th. googletag.cmd.push(function() { if($(document).width()<900) { s = googletag.defineSlot('/50748803/stol-all-bigbox', [300, 250], 'div-gpt-1648064325258-bbm1'); s.setTar
