“It seems the people who work at this business are very proud of what they do. It’s great for us to put names and faces to the businesses we talk about," said Jesse Fonkert, a top GOED official.
While city officials say an inspection program would ensure safer living conditions at rentals, a local property management company official concerned of financial impact it would have on tenants.
During an early July council meeting, a coin flip was needed to decide a tie-break vote when the council was evenly split on appointing the next council president.
“I had a lot of people reach out to me for and against (the rental inspection). One thing that came up a lot is how the city is one of the biggest offenders of nuisance properties,” Hanson said.
Jordan Hanson proposed council members and the mayor be limited to serving three terms, and one of those terms extend for one year instead of three years.
Megan Luther, a resident who lives next to the narrow piece of land, expressed a degree of relief to see a resolution on what she dubbed as an “inherited problem.”
