John Smedley appoints new managing director

McGuire Dudley joined the Derbyshire-based manufacturer in 2014 as head of marketing. Within six months she was promoted to head of marketing and merchandising and, the following year, joined the John Smedley board as marketing and design director. In March 2021, she was appointed as global brand director, overseeing creative, brand, marketing, PR, design and merchandising. Most recently, she took on the role of deputy managing director in January 2022, reporting directly to managing director and seventh-generation Smedley family member, Ian Maclean. As managing director, she succeeds Maclean, who will step into the role of executive chairman after 25 years at the family business, including 15 at the helm. The business credits McGuire Dudley with refreshing the John Smedley's brand image and growing its global sales across ecommerce and physical retail. Fresh from January’s gym rush, Asos sportswear director Tim Williams aims to maintain the momentum by launching exclusive collaborations for trending products, widening its brand assortment as well as tapping into key sporting events in summer. The retailer stocks market-leading sportswear brands including Nike, Adidas, Puma, Asics, New Balance, Salomon and On Running, among its roster of nearly 900 third-party labels. Pepco to offload Poundland

Pepco Group CEO Stephan Borchert said he and the board are "actively exploring separation options for Poundland, including a potential sale". "We are taking clear strategic action to focus on the Pepco brand as our single future format, (...) to create a simpler business focused on higher margin clothing and general merchandise," he added. Poundland revenue has underperformed compared to Pepco Group's other brands Pepco and Dealz in the group's peak trading results for the three months ended 31 December 2024, during which Poundland saw a decline of 7.3%, led by clothing and general merchandise. The business also announced that Barry Williams, former Poundland managing director, who took over as managing director of Pepco in September 2023, will return to the Poundland business to permanently take up the position of managing director of Poundland with immediate effect. Pepco Group is set to deliver a Capital Markets Day investor presentation at 1:30pm today.

Burberry ecommerce boss departs

Egleton joined Burberry in May 2022 and was responsible for the luxury brand's global digital business including its own website and and third-party partnerships. She was previously chief commercial officer at Cath Kidston (2021-2022), global digital and marketing director at AllSaints (2018-2021) and director of ecommerce at Ted Baker (2014-2018). It comes as Burberry CEO Joshua Schulman has been bolstering the leadership team since he took the helm in July 2024, replacing Jonathan Akeroyd. Key appointments included hiring former Topshop/Topman CEO Paul Price as chief product merchandising and planning officer, Jonathan Kiman as chief marketing officer, Laura Dubin-Wander as president of Americas and Costa technology boss Charlotte Baldwin as chief information officer. Primark to complete click-and-collect rollout by summer

Today (26 February), Primark has expanded click and collect to an additional 18 locations, including in Basingstoke, Llanelli and Swindon, bringing the total number of Primark stores offering the service to 131. Primark first trialed click and collect as a service limited to kidswear and babywear in November 2022 and expanded it to cover womenswear the following year. It now covers thousands of women’s, men’s, kids clothing products, including the new adaptive clothing line, as well as homeware, allowing consumers to purchase items not stocked by their local stores. The nationwide click-and-collect rollout was originally scheduled to be completed by the end of this year. Quiz Clothing to close 23 stores as it calls in administrators

The Glasgow-based womenswear retailer first appointed insolvency practitioner Teneo as administrator to consider options for the business last month. An estimated 200 Quiz employees are now expected to be made redundant as the business closes 23 of its 60 standalone stores, including in Brighton, Exeter and Glasgow. The transaction is expected to be structured as a pre-pack administration. The remaining assets will be acquired by Orion Retail, a subsidiary of the company controlled by the Ramzan family. First look: Lounge Underwear teases debut womenswear collection

Founded in 2015 by Drapers 30 Under 30 alumni Dan and Melanie Marsden, Lounge Underwear has turned premium, size-inclusive lingerie - ranging in sizes from 30A to 40G - into a business with an annual turnover of £67.9m, according to its latest full-year financial filings. The direct-to-consumer business is now doubling-down on womenswear with a collection of dresses, tailoring and outerwear launching in-store and online on Friday, 28 February. Among the 32 pieces in Lounge's debut womenswear collection, standout products include a burgundy fake suede trench, twill double-breasted blazer dress and matching blazer and skort co-ord in checked and houndstooth patterns, as well as a cream shearling coat. The coming months will also see the brand expand into footwear, including kitten heels and penny loafers, as well as handbags.
