A 17-year-old boy died Saturday after he was found buried in several feet of sand at Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina, authorities said. Seashore law enforcement rangers responded about 2 p.m. to a 911 call about a teenager trapped in a hole that was about a tenth of a mile east of an off-road vehicle ramp in Frisco, the National Park Service said in a statement. The car’s owner has not been arrested at this time, authorities said. The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner identified the boy as 12-year-old Elias Armstrong.

The deaths in Andover come on the heels of a woman allegedly strangling three of her children before she jumped out a window in an attempted suicide at their suburban Boston home.

Bernard Rittenhouse, 55, of Waycross, was charged with two counts of felony murder and one count of burglary, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

State police said it appeared to be a “tragic accident.” An autopsy was scheduled.

The state troopers were trying to get the man who was walking on the interstate into their patrol SUV, officials said. A driver they had pulled over earlier allegedly struck all of them.
