The search marked the latest development in the investigation following the July arrest of suspected Gilgo serial killer Rex A. Heuermann, 60, of Massapequa Park.
The caseworkers shielded themselves from public review of their actions — and potential criminal charges — due to confidentiality laws that must be reformed, a special grand jury found.
Asa Ellerup, the estranged wife of Rex Heuermann, visits her husband weekly in jail. “I have given Rex the benefit of the doubt, as we all deserve,” she said.
The four defendants in the case have been charged with offenses related to concealing a human corpse and hindering prosecution, but not murder. They return to court March 19.
