The Skokie museum will close this summer, but visitors will be able to see popular exhibits at a temporary satellite museum in River North.

Chiarugi Hardware, a 101-year-old institution, closed following the death of Mr. Rinaldi, whose smile was part of the fabric of Chicago's Little Italy community.

Mr. Rhodes was an easily recognizable figure in the city's music scene and at charitable auctions, where he worked to get those paddles raised.

"It was just something he had to do. It was important to him. Why? I don't know if he could tell you that," said his son.

"You can never have enough holy water for a blessing," the priest at St. Benedict's parish on the North Side would say with a smile. "He just loved revving everyone up with holy water," said the church's director of youth ministry.

Mr. Bryant, who died at 81, created Love To Serve and introduced the sport — and a sense of pride — to thousands of children.
