The 23rd annual Mid-Atlantic Women in Agriculture Conference, with more than 200 in attendance, was held on Feb. 15, 2024, at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club in Stevensville, Maryland. Five UD extension staff led workshops at the event.

Both oakleaf and smooth hydrangeas evolved in and along the woodland landscape. They prefer moisture-retentive, slightly acidic soil high in organic matter. They perform well in full sun. Both species offer full-size and dwarf sizes.

Delaware 4-H Hall of Fame inducted 20 individuals as laureates on Sept. 21, 2024 at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover. The celebration is a high honor, assuring that a lifetime of support and volunteerism is remembered and preserved for posterity.

“For many years, Dave Wilson has been a strong advocate and supporter of the Delaware 4-H program as well as for all youth in our state,” said Doug Crouse, 4-H program leader with the University of Delaware.

Delaware 4-H honored four Delaware youth leaders, Madison Johnson, Abby Mast, Murphy McCarroll and Declan West, with the coveted Delaware 4-H Diamond Clover Award. Created in 2014, the Diamond Clover Award celebrates and acknowledges excellence in extraordinary, sustained, and focused service learning by youth in their communities. Delaware 4-H is coordinated and administered through University of Delaware Cooperative Extension.

Each year, Delaware Cooperative Extension, as the land-grant outreach arm for University of Delaware and Delaware State University recognizes local individuals and organizations with the Friends of Extension Award for outstanding service in support of a united outreach effort. The 2024 honorees were announced at Delaware Cooperative Extension's annual conference held on Oct. 29 at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover.

UD on the frontline of avian influenza

For the third year in a row, Delaware 4-H was well represented at the National LifeSmarts Competition, held this year in Chicago, IL, at the Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, April 24-27, 2025. This year's competition marked the 31st anniversary of LifeSmarts, the youth consumer education program of the National Consumers League. Forty-six student teams from high schools and various student organizations traveled nationwide to compete in the four-day event. The 2025 Delaware team ended in a multi-way tie for 6th place.
