The defunct federal moratorium has “nothing to do with our order” because the
city courts draw authority from the state Legislature and state Supreme Court, a
courts spokesperson said.
The FOP struck a deal with the Kenney administration over a one-year contract
soon after the coronavirus pandemic arrived in the city in 2020. The contract
expired Aug. 1.
Mayor Jim Kenney is defending his response to rising violence in the city and
pushing back against a pair of local officials calling on him to more urgently
address the crisis.
“We will continue to assess the need to implement a vaccination mandate for our
city workers and may make this a requirement at a future date,” a spokesperson
said
The developers expect to break ground on the project’s first building in the
fourth quarter of this year. Mayor Jim Kenney said the project will help spur
equitable growth in the city.
“The future of the NAACP actually lies in getting more young people involved in
the branch,” one local leader said. “It takes intergenerational involvement to
achieve freedom on all levels.”
Hughes said the state’s revenue surplus combined with the federal pandemic
funding was the largest influx of capital into the economy since President
Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said the loosening of coronavirus pandemic
restrictions, warmer weather and increasing numbers of residents outside may
exacerbate shootings and homicides in the coming months.
The closely watched Democratic primary for district attorney ended in a rout for
incumbent Larry Krasner that was buoyed by Black voters throughout the city.
