It’s the latest case to leave federal courts grappling with how local measures regulating short-term rental regulations adhere to what is known as the U.S. Constitution’s “Dormant Commerce Clause.”

The fired Veterans of Foreign Wars quartermaster Cheryl E. Campos, 61, used the money to buy a collections of gems and crystals, according to federal allegations.

While the nearly decade-old suit that was first filed in Eugene is dead, attorney Julia Olson who filed the case said, "This fight is far from over."

Eric Karnezis, 43, of Sedona, Arizona, admitted he worked with others to submit false applications to obtain Paycheck Protection Program loans by submitting fake payroll information and tax documents from January 2021 through at least March 2022.

The hearing came five days after the Oregon Court of Appeals found that Measure 114’s language adhered to the state Constitution, overturning a Harney County judge’s decision that has blocked the measure from taking effect.

“Plaintiffs were kept in the dark about Khan’s fraud, neglect and misuse of company funds for years by repeated assurances that all is well,” the suit alleges.

Andre Ashon Hill, 43, returned to federal court Thursday, accused of possessing cocaine with the intent to distribute it, being a felon with a gun and money laundering.

“We concluded that all of Measure 114 is facially constitutional,” under the state constitution, Presiding Judge Darlene Ortega wrote in the 25-page opinion.

Two of the three charged in the scheme gained U.S. citizenship through a special military program designed to recruit foreign nationals with special skills, FBI officials said.

FBI agents from Oregon and Washington state were involved in the investigation.
