At more than 200 schools, the opt-in COVID testing rates fall short of the
city’s 10% threshold goal. At 70 schools, 10 or fewer students are enrolled in
the school-based testing program.
The rules will apply to unvaccinated students in close contact with someone who
tested positive for COVID-19, or students and staff instructed to quarantine or
isolate after testing positive.
About 49 percent of students from 5 to 17 are vaccinated, but several schools on
the South and West sides had fewer than 10 percent of their student population
fully vaccinated.
The district has so far spent only 12 percent, or $62.9 million, on a
half-billion initiative designed to help students bounce back from COVID
disruption.
Over the past six years, Trevor Nicholas’ student ensembles have premiered works
at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Harris
Theater and Wrigley Field.
In December, only 5.4 percent of Dunne students were fully vaccinated. But in
the past few months, the school has seen an increase in uptake to 42.3 percent,
close to CPS’ overall average.
