Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is offering to pay a $7,000 fine for a Dallas salon owner who reopened her business, violating an order which demands salons remain closed. On Tuesday, Shelley Luther was sentenced to seven days in jail for opening Salon À la Mode last month. Stay-at-home orders were still in place for the county and state. Luther was cited by the city of Dallas for opening and publicly ripped up the citation she was issued.

For the past several months, health departments across the country have been pushed into overdrive responding to the coronavirus pandemic. The Beaumont Health Department is no exception. Beaumont Health Director Sherry Ulmer said the following when asked if she's ever seen anything like COVID-19: "Nothing like this. There’s an old scam with a new twist you should know about. The Better Business Bureau is warning consumers about fake packages delivery notifications, where scammers pose as agents with U. S. Customs and Border Protection. In one instance of the scam, they’ll try to lure you with a notification about a suspicious package addressed to you. You're asked to respond, or an arrest warrant will be issued. In another version, the scammer still poses as a CBP, but says you’ve won a sweepstakes prize.
