After the administration of Rochester Public Schools maintained its previous offer during the most recent round of negotiations, the bargaining team of the district’s principals union has decided to consult its broader membership before making any further decisions.

Over the course of the agreement, the company will pay the district a total amount of $59,500, equating to $8,500 a year.

This summer, RPS officials estimated they would have to make $13.4 in cuts for next year. Since then, the district has reduced its estimate to roughly $10.4 million.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, only 2.7% of high school graduates took a Latin course in 2019.

According to the salary schedule for 2024-25 outlined in the previous contract between the district and the union, principals made anywhere from $107,800 a year to $162,700.

“One of the worst things people in education can do around AI is nothing,” said Naomi Hughes, a media specialist. “Because kids are already using it.”

The levy was approved with more than 60% of the vote at Fillmore Central Public Schools. In total, 1,185 votes were cast.

A press release about the day's event described it as "a milestone accomplishment for the accessibility of First Robotics Competition resources and training in southeast Minnesota."

Two education support professionals have been named among the top five finalists for the ESP of the Year award, given by the statewide union Education Minnesota.

RPS Superintendent Kent Pekel said the district is already working on improving its science scores. The district recently purchased a new science curriculum for its elementary schools.
