The Boar’s Head plant in southern Virginia at the epicenter of a deadly nationwide listeria outbreak was found with mold and insects, according to USDA reports.
The National Park Service’s plan to overhaul the public golf course in Rock Creek Park received final approval Thursday from the National Capital Planning Commission.
The company said the production process used to make liverwurst was the culprit for contamination and will no longer produce liverwurst at its facilities.
The CDC also reported two new hospitalizations associated with the nationwide listeria outbreak. In total, 59 people have been hospitalized in 19 states since late May.
