It’s been awhile, but BC High School Rodeo-South finally returned to Barriere the weekend of Oct. 8-9, at the North Thompson Fall Fairgrounds with a first class event and over 70 entries.

The North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo grounds in Barriere became the centralized camping area Saturday for participants in the 20th Pulling Together Canoe Journey.

The Thompson Valley Players (TVP) are pleased to announce they will be hosting the TVP Youth five day workshop ‘Acting Up’ from July 25-29 from 9:30 a.m. to 2p.m. in the gymnasium at the Barriere Ridge.

Barriere resident Chris Frezell has been an employee with the District of Barriere for many years. He has worked his way up at the municipality, and says he always wanted to work in as many different departments as possible so he could really understand what it takes to run a town.

An entertaining Christmas Concert was performed for area seniors at the Barriere Seniors Hall by Barriere Elementary School students from both kindergarten and grade four classes on Dec. 15. Patrons of the Barriere Motor Inn and Restaurant, plus the former Cold Beer and Wine Store situated on the same property no longer have access to these businesses from Highway 5 as of Dec. 17.

I thought I was going to have to say goodbye to a very close friend this week.

It has been many years since the community of Barriere had an active Scout Troop based in the area. However, thanks to the tenacity of a local mom that’s all going to change.
