The head of Charlie Kirk’s contracted security says he texted UVU's police chief ahead of the Sept. 10 about securing campus rooftops. The chief apparently responded, “I got you covered.”

Leslie Durham hasn't been at Weber State University long, but the relatively new administrator will now take the helm as interim president.

The public wasn’t informed about any finalists or told about their experience. But the name of Utah State University's new leader may still be familiar to many.

“It’s a work of art even non-art people know, and I love that about it,” said Gretchen Dietrich, executive director of the Utah Museum of Fine Arts at the University of Utah.

As other states face daunting drops in student enrollment, Utah’s public colleges and universities are continuing to buck trends with record-breaking growth this fall.

For students coming from Utah’s lowest-income families, a university education could now be entirely free.

“I did hear you mention ‘equity’ twice in the presentation,” said Sen. Mike McKell, R-Spanish Fork, who voted against recommending University of Utah trustee Maria Garciaz for reappointment.

“It didn’t come out exactly the way I wanted it to come out,” said Southern Utah University economics chair David Berri, who denied any discrimination.
