As renovation and expansion work continues at one park in this city, the Greenville City Council has approved funding to begin the restoration of another public park.  While the first of the three-phase, $1 million trail hub project at Jackson’s Landing has nearly wrapped up, members of the City Council voted unanimously Aug. 20. to award a bid that will see the start of renovation begin at Pearl Street Park.

In holding its annual informational meeting Monday, the Greenville Downtown Development Authority placed a focus on a number of projects, both current and in the future.  As required by the state’s Downtown Development Act, the informational meeting saw city staff bring forward a year-to-date synopsis of activities completed by the DDA in the past year.

Finding the ‘might to march’

When the members of the Carson City-Crystal High School Marching Band set out to learn their show during band camp last week, Mother Nature didn’t seem to get the memo.  Following a Monday where students baked in the sun while battling the humidity, they returned Tuesday to a downpour that lasted into the early afternoon. The 56-member band had to retreat indoors, marching on the gymnasium floor and practicing music in the hallways of the school.

Montcalm County Fair Livestock Auction brings in record dollars

For a third consecutive year, local 4-H’ers were beaming with pride Thursday evening as many of their animals shown at the Montcalm County Fair sold for another record amount at the annual livestock auction.  After six hours of bidding and the sale of 363 farm animals, a total of $434,207.76 had been earned by 4-H'ers, not including registration and processing fees.

UPDATE: Police investigating ‘suspicious’ deaths of 2 people near S...

The Michigan State Police Lakeview Post is investigating the “suspicious” deaths of two individuals in a home near Sheridan. MSP troopers were dispatched to the 5400 block of Beaver Drive in Sidney Township around 9:35 a.m. Wednesday for a report of two deceased individuals located by a family member inside a residence, according to MSP Public Information Officer Michelle Robinson.
