Starbucks CEO has 'tall order' ahead: Shake Shack founder

Pun intended by Shake Shack (SHAK) founder and Union Square Hospitality Group CEO Danny Meyer, when he said on a recent episode of Opening Bid with Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi, that Starbucks (SBUX) CEO Brian Niccol has a "tall order" ahead of him; a witty reference to the smallest coffee cup size and incredibly large undertaking for the newest CEO. The legendary restaurateur explained that it's not necessarily advantageous to have every permutation of a coffee available to its customers in the name of "saying yes" for good hospitality. "The average customer may have a declining good experience because of all the hospitality we're giving saying 'yes'....I guarantee you that Starbucks is gonna find a way to say 'yes', but they're not going to promote all those alternatives the way they once did. Because I think all those alternatives gum up the works for the average person who just wants a tall coffee," Meyer said. For full episodes of Opening Bid, watch on our website or listen&n

Nvidia looks like a bulletproof stock

Nvidia’s stock is off to a strong start in December. Shares have outperformed the S&P 500 by almost two times! But that’s only one reason why Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi has Nvidia (NVDA) on his stock of the day list. The second is that the company may have just signaled a key future earnings catalyst: acquisitions. Considering Nvidia has more than $40 billion in cash on the books, buying other companies is certainly possible. Another area of intrigue is that Nvidia’s stock is doing well despite new chip advances out of Amazon (AMZN). Why Elon Musk and Trump could fall flat with DOGE

Investors have largely ignored geopolitical risks in 2024, opting instead to latch onto bull stories such as AI, robust corporate earnings growth and Fed rate cuts. But the overlooking of key risks may not come into 2025 as President-elect Trump promotes an America first economic agenda. Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi chats with geopolitical strategist and New York Times best-selling author Peter Zeihan. Zeihan breaks down some of the top geopolitical risks for investors to know ahead of 2025 – one of them being Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk. How much risk will returning president Trump bring to tense geopolitical situations such as the Ukraine/Russia war? Will penalizing tariffs on China unleash new problems for the global economy? This latest episode dives into all of these topics and much more. For full episodes of Opening Bid, listen on your favorite podcast platform or watch on our website.

Will Trump tariffs hammer your wallet?

"If they raised the price on that [sweater], are you buying it?" BMO Capital Markets senior analyst Simeon Siegel posed to Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi on Opening Bid. "If it doubles, will you?" to which Sozzi answered an unequivocal 'no.' Well, that is the reality that retail products might face should Trump's 25% tariffs go into effect, Siegel explained. "I think the question is if prices are raised because of tariffs—or if prices are raised because the company thinks they can just charge more. It's not how life works. The consumer dictates." The consumer will bear the burden of the price or decide if they're not willing to. For full episodes of Opening Bid, watch on our website or listen on your favorite podcast platform.
