Poll workers seeking to verify voters reported hotline wait times that caused some community members to leave before casting their ballots.

Shasta’s Market Street election office had few lines and easy access in the final hours of California’s special election on Prop. 50.

On Friday, Oct. 24, county supervisors will consider a letter opposing efforts to gain state funds to build a behavioral health facility in Shasta. A strongly-worded press release sent out today by the collaborative behind that effort accuses county Board Chair Kevin Crye of attempting to block the project.

Temporary election staffers are currently training on ballot processing under election official Clint Curtis. Newly hired extra help staffers include some of the most outspoken critics of his predecessors in the role.

Registrar of Voters Clint Curtis responded by saying county supervisors, including the three who voted to appoint him in May, are “confused.” Nevertheless, he’s agreed to post press releases on the county’s election website moving forward.

The nonprofit First Amendment Coalition agreed to represent Shasta Scout after newly-appointed election official Clint Curtis excluded the newsroom from receiving elections-related press releases. On Tuesday, Oct. 14, Shasta supervisors will discuss the legal threat in closed session. For now, Curtis’ office has paused press releases to all media outlets.
