Last year, activist Sandy Eyles was served with a ‘trespass notice,’ effectively banning her from the property during school board and committee meetings, after a verbal altercation with then-board member Stefanie Adams. Now, Eyles is pursuing her last resort to appeal the year-long ban.

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction has awarded a $274,000 grant to Pender County Schools to help support current mental health professionals who are pursuing a full license. It’s one of eight school districts in the state to receive the five-year grant.

Teachers and administrators across the state took the biannual NC Teacher Working Conditions Survey conducted by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. <a href=“https://adincsurvey.azurewebsites.net/#/nctwcs/2024_NCTWCS”>Initial results</a> from New Hanover County Schools show that 87% of teachers in the district say their school is a “good place to work and learn,” but that’s slightly lower than the state average of 91%.

At last night’s New Hanover County Board of Education meeting, members voted to effectively ban student art, family, photos, and other images from classrooms and school grounds — reversing an earlier policy committee proposal to use less restrictive language. The board also voted to change their legal representation, and heard from students who support the Battle of the Books.

On Tuesday, June 25, Jason Rogers sent a ‘farewell’ email to the students and staff of the Cape Fear Community College marine technology program. Rogers said his application to remain the program’s leader was “unsuccessful.”
