North Shore resident Joanne Martin emailed me about her favorite gadget — the Soup Sock. I had never heard of such a thing, but after reading Martin’s email I could see how Soup Socks would be helpful. “These are stretchable, loosely woven cheesecloth bags,” she wrote. “Nothing to do with smelly real socks.”

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs has announced two executives appointed to key leadership positions:

Catholic Charities Hawaii has named Denise Iseri-Matsubara executive director of Catholic Charities Housing Development Corp. Iseri-Matsubara was previously executive director of the Mayor’s Office of Housing under Mayor Rick Blangiardi. Her experience also includes serving as a board member and, later, as executive director of the state Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corp. for seven years and as a senior special assistant to then-Gov. David Ige.

The Kukui Children’s Foundation has named Suzanne Skjold to its board of directors. Skjold joins the board with more than 25 years’ experience in nonprofit leadership, including as chief operating officer at Aloha United Way for four years and executive director at Hawaii Literacy, a Kukui Center, for 12 years. She also serves on the Hawaii Community Foundation’s Literacy Advisory Committee and Workforce Development Council’s Data and Financial Performance Committee.
