The spending has become a point of contention since Sacramento is dealing with a $44 million shortfall and is expected to remain in a structural budget deficit.

The spending plan addresses the $44 million shortfall for the upcoming fiscal year.

These “interim housing micro-communities” would potentially require fees of roughly 30% of an individual’s income.

“It’ll be intense, and the decisions won’t be pretty, but we have to be responsible and adopt a balanced budget,” said Mayor Kevin McCarty.
