Senate Bill 176, a major piece of medical malpractice reform legislation, waited six weeks for its first committee hearing.

Lawmakers on Thursday moved one step closer to calling for long-term protections for the Upper Pecos River watershed.

Of the eight total cases of measles in New Mexico — all in Lea County — four were among adults and the remaining four among children under 18.

The proposal would require minimum financial assistance for households at up to four times the federal poverty level.

The bill would require the state meet a 45% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, a 75% reduction by 2040 and 100% by 2050.

"We want to make sure that people understand their rights, and one of the best ways to do that is through workshops in our communities," said organizer Marcela Díaz.

Officials hope the local health center will be back open by the summer, but that's dependent on finding qualified workers.

Nearly 68,000 New Mexicans have enrolled in individual health insurance plans for 2025, outpacing last year's figures by over 10,000.

The push would dedicate $60 million to the fund to support 60 rural libraries statewide.

The HALL facility opened in October and has already hosted trainings for more than 200 new employees and nursing students.
