The Biden administration on Tuesday sued two corporations behind a petrochemical plant in Louisiana, arguing that the facility poses “unacceptably high cancer risks” to the low-income and predominantly Black residents of nearby communities and demanding significant cuts in toxic pollution.

“The U.S. must be castigated on the world stage for its treatment of women, girls, and others who can become pregnant,” said one advocate.

“We need systemic reforms to stop the petrochemical industry from having carte blanche to profit off of poisoning people and the planet,” says the international Break Free From Plastic alliance.

"It was never about 'protecting children,'" said one opponent of the law. "It was always about eliminating LGBTQ people from public life and making it illegal to even discuss our existence."

“Businesses are deploying potentially dangerous AI tools faster than their harms can be understood or mitigated,” Public Citizen warns. “History offers no reason to believe that corporations can self-regulate away the known risks.”
