Things quickly go south for Badgers in Puerto Vallarta

The Wisconsin softball team kicked off the 2023 season in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where they played four games in three days — losing all four.

Ahead of Thursday’s season opener, Wisconsin will have their eyes set on improving from their eighth-place Big Ten finish in 2022 with the help of familiar faces albeit with some intriguing newcomers.

After a disappointing season and personnel turnover, the Wisconsin Badgers, now led by Luke Fickell, will meet the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Phoenix for the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. 

The Badgers were unable to take care of business in the 2022 installment of the Paul Bunyan Axe game, surrendering the trophy to Minnesota for the second year in a row.

With a path to the Big Ten West title at stake, Wisconsin’s offensive incompetence, coupled with excessive mistakes, led to a 24-10 defeat in Iowa City.
