In a letter to Congress, former employees say the center delayed a plan to address the leaks that its officials now cite as a serious safety risk.

The federal judge denied a Democratic lawmaker’s request for an emergency hearing on the closure, which began on Tuesday.

The announcement came after President Trump said he would cancel a $257 million renovation of the venue if his name is not returned to the building.

David Rubenstein purchased the sculpture, which was removed from the center last week, from the artist’s foundation. He will display it at the National Gallery of Art.

The towering artwork, added to the campus in 2019, was targeted for elimination after President Trump’s takeover of the center.

After the court forced the removal of the president’s name from the building’s title, the center devised a plan to add an inscription honoring President Trump.
