Hegseth has strongly defended Trump’s militarized response to protests over federal immigration raids but would not directly answer a question from a lawmaker Wednesday about whether he supported the decision to activate the National Guard during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

There have been slim details on the future presidential aircraft and Hegseth declined to offer more information to lawmakers Wednesday.

When a federal court blocked the move weeks later, the workers were reinstated, but that was not the end of their turmoil.

“We are just focused on putting our uniforms on, going to work every day, doing our jobs the best that we can do until we can’t do them anymore," one trans service member said.
