An elderly man asked his hired nurse to go out to buy him liquor. The nurse took the man’s car, cash and credit card on a day-long spree spending $1,500 -- and returning without the liquor.

As she worked on cleaning out her mother’s Chagrin Falls home, a woman reported Aug. 1 that a Newbury Township man had deceived her in the sale of antique furniture, then ghosted her as she tried to reach him.

A romance scam cost a Chagrin Falls resident $36,000, the victim told police July 22. The scammer, who appears to be located outside of the United States, instructed the victim to send the money by wire transfer.

Don’t let summer slip away. Pack a picnic and head to the park from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 9 for an afternoon of family fun at Veterans Legacy Woods. A variety of indoor and outdoor activities are planned.

Responding to a motorist’s complaint about randomly placed traffic cones on the street at 4:26 p.m. July 22, an officer saw multiple cars either strike the cones or swerve left of center to avoid them.

After a found wallet turned up with Chagrin Falls police July 9, officers located the owner -- but seized the fake driver’s license it contained.

As seen in this week’s Russell Township police blotter, officers responded 7:59 a.m. July 11 to a house to help Geauga County sheriff deputies with a burglary in progress in Newbury Township. The effort netted two suspects who were apprehended without further incident.
