Understanding market risk and seasonality for smarter investing

Listen and subscribe to Stocks In Translation on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you find your favorite podcast. Risk is all around us. Whether it’s the real world or the investment world we can’t escape it forever. In this episode of Stocks In Translation, Yahoo Finance Markets and Data Editor Jared Blikre and Producer Sydnee Fried welcome back a friend of the show, Steve Sosnick, chief strategist at Interactive Brokers. This episode’s word of the day is risk: the chance that an investment’s actual return will differ from the expected return, potentially resulting in financial loss. While it’s true that the market generally goes “up and to the left” over time, Sosnick believes that people often “get very focused on reward” without fully understanding the associated risks. “I think when you get into an environment where things are a little frothy, people lose sight of that,” says Sosnick. “Risk is always out there. Eddie Johnson's 5% Rule for crypto investing

Eddie Johnson, Author and CEO of Grow My Bag TV recently joined Stocks In Translation and spoke about his 5% rule when it comes to investing in crypto. "When I look at a stock, I'm looking at, well, that stock's gonna move 5%, 2%, 3%, and I'll be happy," he explains. "But when I look at crypto, I have a 5% rule: If it goes up or down within a 5% range, I don't care. I don't even pay attention to it... within a 24 hour period. Beyond that, if it's down again or up again, now I'm paying attention." "But that 5% rule helps ease that volatility that I'm looking at and enables me to actually review different coins and different projects based on what they do," Johnson continues, as he compares the dynamics between altcoins dogecoin (DOGE-USD) and Shiba Inu (SHIB-USD).
