Storms force trees to grow deeper roots, the saying goes, and I rather like that thought.

Ousewem. It sounds like a terrible affliction, likely to be contagious, and native only to the river upon which life in and around York has grown. Something you might contract as a result of the serial offending, well-documented in this newspaper, by Yorkshire Water.

Journalists do not become journalists to prepare for court hearings. They join newsrooms, submit FOI requests, ask questions, report from council hearings and courts and speak to as many people as they can because they have a story to tell. They also know that local communities do better when there is more information in the public domain, not less.
