Today was the warmest weather we’ll see in at least a week. Cold fronts offer cooler conditions and a shower chance tomorrow.

Heavy downpours brought roughly 18 to 24 months’ worth of rain to a city that averages only a few inches of rain per year.

Any raindrops should be much more miss than hit. Highs are probably near 80 locally tomorrow.

Any storms should be less than severe, with not a lot of rain expected in most spots.

The worst of the storms has moved to the south of the area. There’s a small chance of one or two more this evening.

Temperatures are probably a bit below average today. After that, we’re warmer than typical through the coming work week.

It will be on the cool side to start the weekend. On Sunday, temperatures should rise well into the 70s.

Overall, forecasts did a reasonably good job simulating the cloud cover — even up to about 10 days in advance.

Wednesday’s storms left a trail of damage and were blamed for at least one death, in Mississippi. Severe weather was sweeping toward the East Coast late Thursday.

Some strong storms could pass through the D.C. area after midnight. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
