The tanks are particularly important to hold spikes in leachate during high rainstorms, said Tom Vetri, commissioner of environmental control for the town.

The $450,000 slated for the the projects is part of $27.7 million the Town of Babylon received under the American Rescue Plan Act.

The money will be given to the Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church in Lindenhurst, which Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer said will use a charity to distribute it to refugee assistance groups in Poland and neighboring countries.
