Common Council Members Zeneta B. Everhart, Leah Halton-Pope and Rasheed Wyatt are all considering running for mayor next year. Brown is expected to resign to become CEO of the Western Regional Off-Track Betting, which would make Council President Christopher Scanlon acting mayor.

“I’m glad that the issue is finally resolved,” North Common Council Member Joseph Golombek Jr. told The Buffalo News on Monday.

WROTB board members unanimously approved a contract with Brown on Thursday at their board meeting at Batavia Downs Gaming & Hotel.

Given the city’s “ongoing financial crisis,” Council members Leah Halton-Pope and Mitchell P. Nowakowski said in a letter to the administration that “there is a need for rigorous enforcement of contracts, collection of outstanding payments and improved collections practices for fines and fees.”

On his first day as acting mayor of the city of Buffalo, Christopher P. Scanlon said he’s ready to hit the ground running. But the salary he'll receive as acting mayor remains undecided.

The typical customer will pay $484 a year for water, a 7% increase. In 2023, the Buffalo Water Board raised the bill paid by the typical residential customer by $41 a year, or 10%.

Acting Buffalo Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon just released his capital budget proposal for 2025 – the largest capital investment in the city’s history with investments in streets, sidewalks, parks, buildings and schools. The budget would be $82 million over the $28 million debt cap recommended by Buffalo Comptroller Barbara Miller-Williams.

Facing a projected $17.68 million budget gap for fiscal year 2025, acting Buffalo Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon is asking each city department to cut 10% from their operating budgets for next year.
