I am once again asking Ohio lawmakers to please just feed the children. For all that is good and decent, at long last, with all the strife in the world, would you please at least just make sure schoolchildren aren't going hungry?

A nation abandoning academic freedom, policing freedom of thought in the classroom, persecuting freedom of expression on campus, dismantling education, and ripping down its own pillars of world-renowned scientific and medical research, is a nation in the wild-eyed throes of moronic and shameful madness.

Here's the real kick about how President Donald Trump's tariffs are going to hike prices for everything: Once that happens, even if the tariffs go away, the prices are never, ever going back down again.

Ohio continues to rank terribly in every way possible, according to U.S. News & World Report. Ranking No. 38 overall, Ohio also ranks No. 41 for environment, No. 41 in higher education, No. 30 in overall education, No. 39 in economy, and No. 34 in health care.

After my first meeting with Athens NEWS publisher Bruce Mitchell, I knew the kismet had found us — a shared bulldog energy for public accountability against public corruption. A powerhouse local community paper, the legacy of the A-NEWS continues today.

This fall, will Ohio politicians keep our state's U.S. House districts gerrymandered 10-5? Will they gerrymander more, to 11-4, or to 12-3, or to 13-2? Who knows? The only thing I can guarantee you is that Ohio voters will not get fair, competitive maps.

Are you satisfied, Ohio? Are you happy you kept politicians in charge of redistricting? Out of 131 legislative races in Ohio in 2026, maybe seven to 10 are actually competitive. The others are not. That's pathetic. It's an absolute disgrace.

Is public fraud infuriating? Yes. Is political corruption an insidious, destabilizing debasement of the public trust and the public good? Absolutely.
