After eight years, Ah Sing Den, an East Austin bar inspired by a Victorian London-era opium den, will close June 9 to make way for a new restaurant. 

In anticipation of freezing temperatures, Bexar County and the city of San Antonio will open cold weather shelters on Jan. 20.

The restaurants include a chicken salad shop and Chinese-American fast food.
