Wall Street's main indexes slipped on Monday, pressured by a rise in Treasury yields and as investors digested data that pointed to softening manufacturing activity in the United States.

Global stocks were on pace for their third straight week of gains and seventh consecutive monthly advance on Friday buoyed by strong gains in megacap Amazon after its quarterly earnings, while the dollar climbed after hawkish comments from some Federal Reserve officials.

Asian stocks advanced in morning trading on Thursday after the Federal Reserve cut interest rates and U.S. and Chinese leaders met to thrash out a trade deal, with the Bank of Japan also due to decide on interest rates imminently.

Global stocks reversed course and were on pace to snap a four-session streak of gains on Wednesday, while the U.S. dollar extended gains after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell dampened expectations for another U.S. interest rate cut by the central bank in December.

The U.S. Commerce Department said on Friday its Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index (PCE) rose 0.3% in August, versus the prior 0.2% rise in July and matched the estimate of economists polled by Reuters.

U.S. stocks closed lower for a second straight session on Wednesday, as investors booked profits with indexes near record levels after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell flagged potentially stretched stock prices and ahead of a reading on inflation later in the week.

Short interest on the Nasdaq rose 1.1% in mid-September, the exchange said on Wednesday.
