York City's redevelopment authority plans to keep the market open as much as possible during renovations, which are expected to begin this winter.

After a slower start to the summer, York County's housing market continued its momentum from August into the fall.

Kevin Irving took on the role in September, following a decades-long career in the arts, both on and off the stage.

York City Council will take up a resolution allowing York SafeNet, a proposed citywide surveillance camera system, to move forward.

The office will offer help with PennDOT paperwork, birth and death certificates, government applications and other state-related or veteran matters.

The proposal stalled two years ago amid concerns about privacy and civil liberties.

After more than three years in downtown York, "it just was the right time" to expand, owner Elizabeth Bower said.

Bound Books is preparing to move into a larger space with free parking, but its owners say they'll miss the people downtown.

"Their voices are not only valuable, they belong at the table," said York City Council President Edquina Washington.

If passed, the ordinance would bar new vape and smoke shops from opening within 500 feet of schools, religious structures, public recreation facilities, day care centers or libraries, among other restrictions.

One hundred years after the Strand Theatre welcomed its first audience, the community is invited to share in that experience on Saturday as the Appell Center, its umbrella organization, hosts a free centennial celebration.
