Judge Matthew Wald’s ruling granting a preliminary injunction prohibits Stillwater from “administering, managing or otherwise taking part in projects within (Carbon Conservation District’s) territory.”
The order came after an agency investigation determined the Crazy Mountain Ranch had violated the Montana Water Use Act by “impounding and appropriating water without a water right.”
The original diversion was proposed to water the ranch’s 112-acre, 18-hole golf course which ranch workers began watering last year before any change of use was approved.
