The town of Richwood in Nicholas County sits at the confluence of the North and South Forks of the Cherry River. During the 19th century, the small farming community was known as Cherry Tree Bottoms. That all changed in 1901 with the construction of The Cherry River Boom and Lumber Company's saw mill. That same year, the town was incorporated with its present name referencing the abundant hardwood forests in the area.

" Butler learned animal tracking at an early age, using his skills to track down anything that had gotten away.
