A 900-page draft audit of Eric Adams’s 2021 mayoral campaign in New York City found widespread errors that could lead to fines or forfeiture of public matching funds.

Officials told lawmakers that he had also searched for the dates of Trump appearances and the Democratic National Convention. Local police at the Trump rally were circulating a photo of the gunman, who was considered suspicious, before the shooting.

The campaign of Dao Yin, a Democratic candidate for State Assembly, submitted fake donations and forged signatures to obtain much of the matching funds he received.

Dao Yin, a candidate for the New York State Assembly, turned in donor cards that were missing phone numbers and email addresses. Some had forged signatures.

New York’s new matching-funds campaign system rewards candidates who raise money from small donors, but weak oversight may already have led to abuses.

Hui Qin pleaded guilty to giving more than $10,000 in illegal political campaign donations to three candidates, including Mayor Eric Adams.
