Austin reports its first local measles case since 2019

Five people, including a child and an infant, were killed in the crash on southbound Interstate 35 near Parmer Lane late Thursday night. Eleven people were taken to local hospitals after the crash, which involved a semitruck.

The cause of the blast, which was felt miles away, is currently under investigation by the Travis County fire marshal.

Disaster relief organizations, including the Red Cross and Salvation Army, have deployed to the Texas Hill Country to help those affected.

Just before 9 a.m., Austin Police said a shelter-in-place notice has been lifted and residents can resume their normal activities.

The shooting happened at Buford's, a bar on West Sixth and Rio Grande streets, early Sunday morning.

The Austin Fire Department said the children were found dead when crews entered the apartment off of Burleson Road. Residents in 30 apartments have been displaced by the fire.

The change comes after a last-minute notice by the University of Texas at Austin about safety and security concerns. KUT's general manager says she is "confused" by the university's decision.

First responders were called to the scene of the crash at around 11:05 p.m. Thursday and later identified the aircraft as a Cessna 421C.

Gov. Greg Abbott said Thursday that officials were working to confirm additional details on the victim.
