The town hall followed the University of Pittsburgh’s release of a crime alert
on Oct. 6 describing an alleged sexual assault in the Cathedral of Learning
three days earlier.
“The name has kind of become a little bit of an albatross around the school and an irony,” says the principal, and the school should “serve our community and students where they actually are.”
More than 80% of rape and sex assault cases filed in Allegheny County end in convictions. Advocates believe one category of survivor is frequently dismissed by prosecutors.
