The new office will be staffed by 16 lawyers from Karr Tuttle Campbell, a local firm that shuttered just days before the announcement.

The Georgia-based firm is adding three health care partners to its Tampa office after a year of rapid Florida expansion and an expectation of more to come.

After serving decades as a prosecutor, which put him in positions that took him across continents, longtime Tampa attorney and former Greenberg Traurig shareholder Gregory Kehoe will serve as the interim U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida.

After moving to its second permanent office in Miami, the Atlanta-based firm is looking to expand dramatically throughout the Sunshine State.

Managing partner Gerry Greenspoon attributed a 7.4% drop in the firm's equity partner ranks to a mix of departures, retirements and moves to counsel roles.

“This is the greatest opportunity market for the next 10 years. This building is an indicator of that,” said Miami and New York managing partner Scott Brandman. “Even in New York, a lot of the newer buildings are copying what this one is doing.”

Cybersecurity lawyers successfully advocated for the Florida Bar to adopt recommended guidelines for law firms to follow in order to minimize damages from data breaches. While the recommendations aren't set to be enforced, lawyers argue that firms who don't adopt the guidelines are exposed to big financial and reputational risks.

Markenzy Lapointe left the firm in 2023 to serve as the top federal prosecutor in the Southern District of Florida. Now he's expecting to work on more investigations and see more opportunities to hire, as many government lawyers look to go to private practice.

Most of Florida's largest homegrown law firms have remained quiet so far in the face of President Donald Trump attacking law firms over DEI programs and on other grounds, often changing their websites to remove mentions of diversity as well.
